At Retail Technology Show 2025 stand N28, HiStone and B-Spoke Systems showcased the latest retail EPOS and kiosks. HiStone EPOS terminals and kiosk solutions were on show at the Retail Technology Show 2025 at ExCeL London.

HiStone and B-Spoke Systems, the UK distributor for HiStone, exhibited at the Retail Technology Show 2025 at ExCeL London on 2 and 3 April 2025, on stand N28. Stuart Packwood and the B-Spoke sales and technical team ran live demonstrations of HiStone mobile and fixed EPOS systems and self-service kiosks, and talked visitors through the right set-up for their stores.

Five Highlights to See on the Stand
The HiStone EPOS stand at the Retail Technology Show 2025 was planned around five highlights, each designed to show retailers how modern point-of-sale technology can solve everyday challenges.

1. All-in-One HiStone EPOS Terminals
Sleek, fanless all-in-one terminals took centre stage, combining the PC, touchscreen and customer display in one compact unit. Visitors could compare screen sizes, test responsiveness and see how tidy a modern counter can look. Browse our all-in-one POS range.
2. Self-Checkout Kiosks
Self-service was a major theme of the show. The HiStone EPOS self-checkout kiosks on the stand demonstrated how retailers of all sizes can shorten queues and free up staff. See our self-checkout kiosk systems.

3. Mobile POS and Tablets
Handheld devices and tablets showed how staff can bust queues, check stock and take payments anywhere on the shop floor. Explore our mobile POS systems.

4. Scale POS for Fresh Food
For grocers, delis and farm shops, integrated scale POS systems demonstrated accurate, fast pricing of weighed goods. View our scale POS systems.
5. Hisense Digital Signage
Large-format Hisense commercial displays showed how in-store media can attract attention and promote offers alongside the point of sale. Learn more about our Hisense commercial displays.

Why HiStone EPOS Appeals to UK Retailers
Retailers who visited the stand consistently highlighted the same strengths. HiStone EPOS hardware combines commercial-grade reliability with clean, modern design, offering a complete range from counter terminals to kiosks, handhelds, kitchen screens and scales. It runs Windows, Linux or Android, supporting a wide variety of UK software, and it’s available from UK stock through B-Spoke Systems, with configuration, testing and support from our Leicester facility.
For multi-site retailers, the ability to standardise on one family of hardware across counters, self-service areas and the shop floor is particularly valuable. It simplifies training, support and spare parts, and allows new stores to be opened quickly using a proven template.
Who Should Have Visited?
The stand was designed for a wide audience:
- Retailers planning a till upgrade or considering self-checkout.
- Multi-site chains looking to standardise hardware across their estate.
- EPOS resellers wanting to see new HiStone EPOS models before recommending them.
- Software houses interested in compatibility testing and evaluation units.
- Systems integrators working on larger retail technology projects.
The Challenges Facing UK Retailers
The Retail Technology Show 2025 arrived at a time of real pressure for UK retailers. Understanding those challenges helps explain why so many visitors were looking closely at new point-of-sale technology.
Rising Costs
Energy, rent, wages and supply costs have all increased. Retailers are looking for ways to do more with the same resources, and technology that speeds up transactions or frees staff time is an obvious place to start.
Staffing
Recruiting and retaining staff remains difficult in many areas. Self-checkout kiosks and handheld devices help businesses maintain service levels during busy periods without relying on additional headcount.
Changing Customer Expectations
Shoppers expect fast, convenient service, contactless payments and consistent experiences across stores and online channels. Slow tills and long queues quickly lead to lost sales.
Retail Crime and Shrinkage
Losses from theft and errors remain a concern. Well-designed self-service areas, accurate stock control and clear audit trails at the till all help reduce shrinkage.
Sustainability
Customers, investors and regulators increasingly expect businesses to reduce their environmental impact. Energy-efficient hardware, digital receipts and longer equipment life all contribute.
How HiStone EPOS Helps
Each of these challenges can be addressed, at least in part, by the right point-of-sale hardware:
- Faster terminals reduce transaction times and queue lengths.
- Self-checkout kiosks add capacity without extra staff.
- Handhelds let staff serve customers anywhere in the store.
- Integrated scales and scanners reduce pricing errors and shrinkage.
- Fanless, efficient designs lower energy use and extend equipment life.
- Consistent hardware simplifies support and reduces downtime.
HiStone EPOS products are designed with these needs in mind, combining performance, durability and design in a range that covers every part of the store.
Behind the Stand: Preparation and Support
Exhibiting at a major show takes careful preparation. Our team configured and tested every demonstration unit in advance, set up realistic scenarios for visitors to try and made sure product specialists were on hand to answer technical questions. HiStone’s European team joined us to share insights into the wider product roadmap.
That same preparation goes into every customer order. Hardware supplied by B-Spoke Systems is inspected, configured, tested and asset-tagged in our ISO9001-certified Leicester facility before dispatch, so it arrives ready to install.
After the Show
Following the Retail Technology Show 2025, our team followed up with visitors to arrange demonstrations, evaluation units and showroom visits. Many retailers used the show to shortlist options, then visited our Leicester showroom to compare products in more detail before making a decision. You can read our full review of the event in our post on RTS 2025.
Specifying HiStone EPOS for Your Customers
If you’re specifying HiStone EPOS hardware for a customer project, these steps will help you make the right choice.
Start With Your Software
Confirm which software you’ll run and its recommended hardware specification. HiStone EPOS terminals support Windows, Linux and Android, so most UK platforms are covered, but checking in advance avoids surprises.
Plan for Peak Trading
Count your transactions during the busiest hour and make sure you have enough tills, kiosks or handhelds to keep queues short. It’s often more cost-effective to add a kiosk or handheld than another fixed till.
Think About Layout
Measure counter space and plan cable routes. All-in-one terminals suit compact counters, while box POS systems offer flexibility for larger or custom layouts. Self-checkout kiosks need space for customers to queue and bag items.
Consider the Whole Estate
If you run multiple stores, standardising on one family of hardware simplifies training, support and spare parts. HiStone EPOS offers a consistent range across terminals, kiosks, handhelds and scales.
Choose a Supplier With UK Support
Look for a supplier with UK stock, in-house technicians and spare parts. As the UK distributor for HiStone, B-Spoke Systems provides all three from our Leicester facility.
For Resellers and Software Houses
Many visitors to the stand were EPOS resellers and software houses looking for a reliable hardware partner. HiStone EPOS offers a broad, consistent range with long product life cycles, and B-Spoke Systems supports trade partners with pricing, demo units, imaging, asset tagging and drop-shipping. Find out more on our trade EPOS hardware and HiStone reseller pages.
Beyond Retail
Although the Retail Technology Show 2025 focused on retail, the same HiStone EPOS hardware is widely used in hospitality. Restaurants, pubs, cafés and hotels use the terminals, handhelds, kitchen display systems and self-order kiosks to serve guests faster and more accurately. See our hospitality EPOS systems page for more.

What We Learned From Visitors
Conversations on the stand gave us valuable insight into what UK retailers need from their technology. Speed and reliability were at the top of almost every list, closely followed by ease of use for staff and customers. Many retailers were interested in self-checkout but wanted reassurance about supervision, age-restricted products and losses. Others were focused on replacing ageing tills that no longer supported modern software or payment methods.
Resellers and software houses, meanwhile, wanted dependable stock, consistent models and a supplier who could prepare hardware before delivery. These insights help shape the range we stock, the services we offer and the advice we give.
A Closer Look at Self-Checkout
Self-checkout attracted more questions than any other topic on the stand, so it’s worth looking at in a little more detail.
Retailers considering self-checkout usually start with three questions: how many kiosks they need, where to put them and how to manage risk. The answer to the first depends on footfall and basket size; many convenience stores start with two kiosks, while larger stores install banks of four or more. Placement is usually close to the staffed tills, so one colleague can supervise both areas and approve age-restricted items. Risk is managed through good layout, clear camera coverage, visible supervision and software features such as weight checks and prompts.
The benefits can be significant. Customers with small baskets can pay quickly, queues at the staffed tills shorten and colleagues have more time to help shoppers, restock shelves and handle tasks that need a personal touch. Countertop and wall-mounted kiosks make self-service practical even in small stores, where space is at a premium.
A Closer Look at Mobile POS
Handheld devices were another popular part of the stand. Retailers use them to scan items for customers waiting in a queue, check stock and prices on the shop floor, take payments at pop-up counters and carry out stocktakes. Because they connect to the same software as the main tills, every transaction and stock update is recorded accurately. For many stores, a few handhelds deliver a noticeable improvement in service during peak periods at a relatively modest cost.
